ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Departure Day

  • Fly from departure city to Tokyo
  • On arrival in Tokyo you will be met by an EWT representative, who will be with you while you’re in Japan. Load luggage and equipment on your private charter bus.
  • Tokyo is Japan's capital and the country's largest city. Prior to 1868, Tokyo was known as Edo. Tokyo is a hub for Japanese culture and an immersive experience for all visitors. There are many uniquely Japanese attractions as well as sights that display the traditional ancient world of Japan.
  • Arrive at your hotel for check in. Unload luggage.
  • Dinner at your hotel or local restaurant

Accommodation: Moderate hotel located near Tokyo (2 nights)

Day 2: Tokyo

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Guided walking tour of Tokyo
  • Among the sites visited are the Imperial Palace called Kokyo. This castle is an impressive structure that was an impregnable fortress that housed the Tokugawa Shogunate for 265 years. These structures survived centuries but was destroyed in the fire bombings in WWII. Other stops on the tour included the food hall of Ginza and Ueno, home to the National Museum and the finest collection of Japanese art in the country.

  • The afternoon will be free time to explore Tokyo.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant

Day 3: Tokyo / Kyoto

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Check out of your hotel in Tokyo.
  • Travel by one of the famous Japanses Bullet train to Kyoto (5 hours)
  • Kyoto is a creative city where for 1,000 years, skilled craftsmen, wise masters, and the nation's most promising fine artists have been lured here. A long line of Japanese emperors was enthroned here, and the city retains this regal bearing through myriad festivals and commemorative customs preserved from feudal times. Thankfully, Kyoto's treasures were spared from bombing during WW II, when American scholars persuaded the military to leave this masterpiece of a city alone. Though Kyoto is now a thoroughly modern city, much of its spirit is intact, with over 200 Shinto shrines; 1,600 temples, 30 of which administer to the major sects of Buddhism throughout Japan; three Imperial palaces; nine major museums; and countless classic gardens.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant

Accommodation: Moderate hotel in Kyoto (3 nights)

Day 4: Kyoto

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Morning guided tour of Kyoto.
  • The guided tour will highlight the history and culture of this fascinating city. Among the sites visited will be Sanjusangendo, the popular name for Rengeo-in, a temple famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. Also visited will be Ginkakuji, the Silver Pavillion, and proceed to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion, one of Japan's most famous architectural and historical icons.
  • After the tour there will be time to purchase lunch.
  • Afternoon transfer and entrance to Nijo Castle.
  • Nijo Castle, was built in 1603 to be the Kyoto residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu who was the first shogun of the Edo Period (1603-1867). However, the structure was not complete until his grandson’s 23 years later when he further expanded the castle by adding a five-story castle keep.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5: Kyoto

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Transfer to Kiyomizu Temple - guided tour of the grounds of the over 1200-year-old temple stand a variety of historic monuments and artifacts.
  • A stop will be made to purchase lunch on route to Kinkakuji.
  • Transfer to Kinkakuji Golden Pavilion- a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun.
  • ***This afternoon there are several options for Activities:
    • Transfer to Nishijin Textile Center – Tour of the kimono factory.
    • OR Continue on to explore Nishiki Market and Sinkyogoku Shopping Area where there will be time to do some shopping and purchase dinner at the market.
  • Transfer back to your hotel.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 6: Kyoto / Hiroshima

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Morning train to Hiroshima passing through Osak and Kobe.
  • Hiroshima is known as one of the American bombing sites in Japan with Nagasaki. This was the first time an atomic bomb was used and the affects were devastating. After the bombings on August 6th 1945 Hiroshima has been rebuilt into vibrant city.
  • Upon arrival in Hiroshima transfer to the Peace Memorial Park. Our visit takes us to the Peace Memorial Park known in Japanese as Heiwa Kinen Koen. This memorial is for devastation wrought by the bomb known as Little Boy that flatten the city causing the deaths of 200,000 people. At the site visitors see the Cenotaph, shaped like an ancient tomb, holds the names of the dead. In addition to the park the tours include the Peace Memorial Museum and a walk to the A-Bomb Dome, passing the many monuments, memorials, and statues.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.

Accommodation: Moderate hotel in Hiroshima (1 night)

Day 7: Departure from Hiroshima

  • Breakfast at your accommodation.
  • Fly from Hiroshima to Home City.
