ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Arrival Day

  • Fly/Drive from home city to Halifax.On arrival you will be met by an Educational World Tours representative.
  • Welcome to Nova Scotia! Transfer to your hotel and check in.
  • Dinner and Traditional Ceilidh. It's a Nova Scotia 'kitchen party'. Dinner first then well-known Celtic Musicians will engage your students and have them listening, dancing and learning.
  • Return to the hotel for the evening

Accommodation: Moderate hotel accommodation in Halifax - 3 nights

Day 2: HALIFAX

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Morning: travel to Mount Saint Vincent University to attend the Atlantic Festival of Music. Meet your Festival Host and proceed to the warm up area in preparation for your Adjudicated Performance followed by a Workshop with one of the adjudicators.
  • The festival host will guide you through the festival process:

Warm-up room - 30 minutes

Performance on stage - 30 minutes

Adjudicator Clinic - 30 minutes

If time permits, listen to other groups perform at any one of the performance stages that will be active today.

  • Lunch on campus (own expense).
  • Afternoon: Proceed to Seton Academic Centre and attend the Instrument Specific Clinics.Each student will have the opportunity of attending a 1-hour clinic specific to their instrument. Clinicians will be professional musicians/educators at the top of their field.
  • There will be time to listen to other groups perform.
  • Evening: enjoy Dinner at a local Halifax Restaurant before returning to Mount Saint Vincent University for the Evening Concert at the festival.

Following the concert attend the Festival Participants Dance in Rosaria Centre on campus. The evening concert is a 1-hour performance by a professional or university level Canadian ensemble. The DJ Dance starts after the evening concert and is 90 minutes of high energy fun. Live rock/blues/jazz performances by NSCC Music Program groups take place concurrently with the DJ Dance.

  • Board the coach and return to the hotel for the evening.

Day 3: HALIFAX

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Morning: Visit the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. Pier 21 is a National Historic Site which was the gateway to Canada for one million immigrants between 1928 and 1971. It also served as the departure point for 500,000 Canadian Military personnel during the Second World War. Today, Pier 21 hosts the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21—Atlantic Canada's only national museum!
  • Lunch in Halifax (own expense).
  • Afternoon: Travel to the world-famous Peggy's Cove for sightseeing and picture taking followed by a short visit to the Swiss Air Memorial Monument. According to legend, Peggy's Cove was named after the only survivor of a schooner that ran aground and sank in 1800, a woman named Margaret. Local folk called her "Peggy" and her home came to be known as Peggy's Cove. The original lighthouse was built in 1868 and has become an iconic Nova Scotia landmark.
  • Return to the hotel to change for dinner.
  • Evening: Grafton Street Dinner Theatre. Grafton Street Dinner Theater is Halifax's most unique dining experience, creating what has become a unique style of dinner theatre by mixing improvisational comedy with the music of a particular time.
  • Return to the hotel for the night.

Day 4: HALIFAX

  • Breakfast at your hotel.Load your bags and instruments on the coach and depart from the hotel.
  • Morning: take a tour of Historical Halifax on board the Harbour Hopper. An amphibious adventure that shows you the best of Halifax by land and sea! As you travel, view places of interest in this historic city. Continue through the downtown and make the big splash into Halifax Harbour! This fully narrated tour includes topics such as the Halifax Explosion, the rich history of the naval dockyards and Halifax's role during war and peace.
  • Enjoy the rest of your morning at the Seaport Farmers Market. The Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market is the oldest, continuously operating farmers' market in North America and proudly hosting over 250 vendors.
  • Lunch at the market (own expense).
  • Afternoon: stroll along the Waterfront Boardwalk to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (15 to 20-minute walk). The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is the oldest and largest Maritime Museum in Canada. The original concept of the Museum can be credited to a group of Royal Canadian Navy officers who envisioned a maritime museum where relics of Canada’s naval past could be conserved.
  • Walk up the hill for a guided tour of the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and a final look at the city of Halifax. The Halifax Citadel has long watched over the harbour and the downtown core of Halifax. Originally built as a military fortification to protect the Empire from enemies (and the occasional pirate), today the Citadel and its Clock Tower act as a reminder of Halifax's rich past. Visit a place and time when the sounds of a modern port city are exchanged for the crack of rifle-fire and bagpipes.
  • Board the coach and travel to the Halifax Airport for your flight home.
